Arsenal and Manchester United could go toe to toe in the race to sign French under-21 defender Mohamed Simakan this summer, as the 23-year-old continues to impress in the German top flight with RB Leipzig. The defender has three years remaining on his contract with Red Bull.

  • Mohamed Simakan is a highly-talented young French defender who currently plays for RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga. Born on November 3, 2000, in Marseille, France, he began his youth career at local club SC Septemes-les-Vallons before joining the youth academy at FC Sochaux in 2016. He made his professional debut for the club in 2019, and his impressive performances quickly caught the attention of top European clubs.

In January 2021, Simakan signed for RB Leipzig, where he has continued to develop his game and impress fans with his performances on the pitch. Known for his physicality, strength, and impressive reading of the game, Simakan is a versatile defender who can play in a variety of positions across the backline. He has also been called up to the French U20 national team, and with his talent and potential, he is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young defenders in European football.

Arsenal and United have been quoted £30 million to sign the centre-back, and the Gunners are considering a move as there remains uncertainty over the future of William Saliba. Likewise at United, whose defence has suffered with poor form and injury issues this season.
