Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag snubbed the chance to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez last summer.
Martinez is currently one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and he was heavily linked with a move to United last year.
However, the Red Devils went on to land Andre Onana from Inter Milan as the successor to David de Gea, who left on a free transfer.
The club also signed Altay Bayindir from Fenerbahce as the deputy.
Martinez's agent has now disclosed to ESPN that United were very close to landing the goalkeeper, but the move was vetoed by Ten Hag.
The Dutchman preferred a reunion with his former Ajax star in Onana despite the vast experience of Martinez in the Premier League.
Martinez has gone from strength to strength at Villa. The World Cup winner recently helped them qualify for the Champions League.
He is currently with Argentina at the Copa America where they are favourites to go all the way and retain their prestigious title.
