Royal Antwerp defensive midfielder Mandela Keita is a surprise target for Liverpool, as the Anfield side attempt to hijack Napoli's proposed deal for the 22-year-old starlet. With one cap for Belgium to his name, Keita is considered one of his country's best talents and has been monitored by some of Europe's top clubs in recent months.
It is understood that Napoli had not managed to agree a fee with Royal Antwerp for Keita. Enter Liverpool, with a transfer bid of £18 million reportedly accepted by the Jupiler League outfit.
Despite only arriving at Antwerp on a permanent deal this year, Keita had previously spent two separate loan spells on loan at the club. Prior to that, Mandela came through the ranks at OH Leuven, the club that he began his career aged just 7-years-old.
Liverpool are expected to be very busy in the transfer market in the coming two weeks, with numerous names linked with Arne Slot's side. Liverpool are considering an offer for Darwin Nunez, rumoured to be from Chelsea, with a loan deal mentioned. Liverpool are therefore also on the look out for a new striker.
