Manchester United are strongly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain defender Nuno Mendes next summer, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Portugal international has had his injury troubles over the past year, but he remains an important player under manager Luis Enrique.
Les Parisiens are working on extending his contract beyond June 2026, but United have him as an expensive alternative to Alphonso Davies.
Davies is about to enter the last six months of his Bayern Munich contract and as things stand, he is undecided whether to stay or move on.
Should he extend his Bayern deal, United could seriously focus on landing Mendes, who shares the same representative as Ruben Amorim.
Amorim already worked with Mendes when he was a teenager at Sporting CP and a reunion could be a possibility at the end of the season.
PSG prefer to keep Mendes in their ranks. They are expected to demand a hefty fee of at least £55m if he decides to pursue a new challenge.
United already have a good working relationship with the French champions, having signed Manuel Ugarte over the summer.
