Manchester United are prepared to spend more than £50 million to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite this summer, according to The Sun.
The Red Devils are expected to bolster their central defence for next season with Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans set to leave on free transfers.
Lisandro Martinez picked up a serious knee injury at the start of the year and the Argentine may not return to first-team action until December at least.
It is now reported that United plan to return for Branthwaite this summer. They are willing to pay more than £50m to persuade the Toffees into a sale.
However, a deal won't be straightforward with the centre-back keen on playing Champions League football next season to impress Thomas Tuchel.
Tuchel recently took charge as England's head coach. Branthwaite wants to play at the highest level in Europe to break into the Three Lions squad.
United may have to win the Europa League to qualify for the competition. Branthwaite, who is 'very complete' as per Ruud van Nistelrooy, is also on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the summer transfer window.
