Chelsea right-back Alfie Gilchrist is expected to leave the club on a permanent basis this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 21-year-old spent the previous campaign on loan with Sheffield United where he made 32 appearances. His minutes were limited in the back end after an ankle injury.
Gilchrist has now returned to the Blues, but his association with the club could end soon. The talented full-back is poised to pursue a permanent move away from the Blues.
A return to the Championship is likely on the cards. Sheffield could swoop for his services, considering the promise shown by him during his temporary stint at the club last term.
Gilchrist was initially anticipated to break into the Blues first-team, but he has fallen down the pecking order. Malo Gusto and Reece James are now the regular right-back choices.
The youngster has the opportunity to play regular first-team football elsewhere. He could be tempted to rejoin Sheffield as they push for top-flight promotion next season.
