Heskey wants England spot

Heskey wants England spot

15 September 2007 - 14:20

Wigan striker Emile Heskey has pleaded with England boss Steve McLaren to give him a starting berth in the remaining Euro 2008 Qualifiers. Emile also believes that he should earn a starting spot against Estonia.

  • Predicted Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Aston Villa, Palmer starts
  • Chelsea ready to sell four home-grown players

  • "I feel I've done enough to deserve to start the next game," said Heskey, who held off the challenge of Peter Crouch, back after a ban, to keep his place against Russia.

"As a player you want to start all the time, definitely. A player is not worth having in the squad if they want to sit on the bench.

"But, to be honest, I think there is still a lot more to come from me.

"I did what I had to do against Russia, I would probably give myself seven out of 10 for my performance.

"I know I have got more than that. But for that game it was ideal that I played in that way."

With Wayne Rooney on his way back from a long-term injury, Heskey knows his chances of first team action may be limited.
