Manchester United could swoop for the signature of Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand when the transfer window reopens in January.
The Red Devils were determined to bolster the defensive midfield department last summer, but they could not find a suitable solution before the deadline.
This has not ended the speculation and reports claim that they are lining up an approach for Hjulmand, who previously worked under Amorim.
The Dane arrived as a relatively unknown from Lecce, but he has quickly developed into one of the best holding midfielders in Europe.
Hjulmand has earned the captain's armband as a result, and United could be prepared to test Sporting's resolve during the next transfer window.
Sporting were open to selling him for around €60 million last summer, but they could resist his potential exit until the end of the campaign.
Hjulmand has not publicly spoken about his desire to leave the Portuguese champions and may not push for a transfer unless United can sort a deal.
