Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney believes the Red Devils should have re-signed Danny Welbeck from Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this year.
The Mancunian giants contemplated the prospect of re-signing Welbeck from the Seagulls last summer, but they did not make a formal approach in the end.
They were happy with the purchase of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, but the Slovenian has yet to find his stride. He has netted only two league goals.
On the contrary, Welbeck has been in exceptional form for the Seagulls upfront. He has actually become better with age and has netted six league goals this season.
Speaking on his BBC podcast, Rooney said that he is stoked by Welbeck's transformation and United should have brought him back to Old Trafford last summer.
He said: "I’m stoked, he’s been on fire. I absolutely love Daniel, I love him. He’s been such a good player in the Premier League. Man United should have brought him back because he scores goals and he works hard."
