Manchester United and Chelsea could go head-to-head to land Sunderland midfielder Noah Sadiki, according to Sky Sport Switzerland.
The DR Congo international signed for the Black Cats from Union SG last summer and has been instrumental in their strong Premier League run.
The Black Cats were fancied for a relegation battle at the start of the campaign, but they are presently ninth in the table with 23 points.
Sadiki has been brilliant alongside Granit Xhaka in the centre of the park and it may not be long before he secures a bigger challenge elsewhere.
United and Chelsea have established contact with the player's representatives, but a transfer deal seems unlikely until the season ends.
Sunderland are fully focused on their battle to beat the drop. They are in a strong position to do so and are unlikely to weaken the squad this winter.
Instead, the hierarchy are prepared to back the manager with more funds to reinforce the squad such that they can push for a European spot.
