Chelsea plan move for forward Aaron Bibout

Chelsea are being linked with a move for Aaron Bibout, with the Genk striker emerging as a surprise name on the club's summer scouting list.

  • The 21-year-old Cameroon forward has enjoyed a rapid rise over the last 18 months, moving from LA Galaxy's system to Västerås SK in Sweden before earning a switch to Genk. That kind of journey is exactly why Chelsea's recruitment team may be paying attention. Bibout is not yet a household name, but his development curve has been sharp, and clubs are increasingly trying to move before young forwards become too expensive.

Bibout is a physically impressive striker. At around 6ft 4in, he has the size to trouble centre-backs, but he is not just a static target man. He can run channels, attack crosses and use his frame to hold off defenders. That makes him an interesting profile for Chelsea, who have often looked at younger attacking players with room to grow rather than paying huge money for finished products.

His season stats help explain the interest. Since joining Genk, Bibout has scored six goals in the Belgian Pro League, despite playing fewer than 1,000 league minutes. That is an encouraging return for a young forward still adapting to a new club and a higher level. He has also impressed with Jong Genk, where he has been credited with strong scoring numbers, showing he can produce regularly when given responsibility.

Before arriving in Belgium, Bibout scored six goals in 12 league games for Västerås, and earlier in his career he produced 23 goals in 50 appearances for Ventura County. The pattern is clear: whenever he settles, he scores. That is why Chelsea may see him as a player worth monitoring before his price rises.

The fee would likely still be manageable by Premier League standards. Genk signed him for a reported €2.2m, and his current value is believed to be around €2m to €3m. If Chelsea were to make a serious bid, Genk would surely demand a profit, but a deal in the €6m to €10m range could be enough to start talks, depending on add-ons.

This would not be a signing for instant headlines. Bibout would probably need development time, whether with Chelsea's first-team squad, Strasbourg, or another loan pathway. But the tools are there: size, goals, mobility and upside.
