Liverpool are being linked with a summer bid for Denzel Dumfries, with the Inter Milan wing-back emerging as a possible option if the club decide to strengthen the right side of their defence.
The Dutch international has been one of Inter's most reliable big-game players in recent years, and his profile is easy to understand. Dumfries is powerful, direct, experienced and built for high-intensity football. He is not a delicate full-back who simply recycles possession. He is aggressive, athletic and at his best when driving forward, attacking the back post and turning defensive situations into dangerous transitions.
Liverpool's interest makes sense because the right-back area could become a talking point this summer. Trent Alexander-Arnold's long-term role has often been debated, Conor Bradley is still developing, and Liverpool may want another senior option who can provide physicality and experience. Dumfries would bring exactly that. He can play as a right-back, but he is most comfortable as a wing-back, which would give Liverpool tactical flexibility depending on the system.
His season stats show why he remains attractive. Dumfries has made around 20 Serie A appearances this campaign, scoring three goals and adding one assist. Across all competitions, his attacking contribution from defence has remained useful, while his Champions League experience adds another layer of appeal. He has also been part of another successful Inter side, helping the club compete at the top of Italian football.
The biggest reason this deal could become interesting is the price. Dumfries has a release clause believed to be worth around €25m, or roughly £21m to £22m. In the current market, that is a very reasonable fee for a proven international defender with Serie A, Champions League and World Cup experience. Inter are reportedly keen to offer him a new contract that would remove or change that clause, so Liverpool may have a limited window if they want to move.
There will be competition. Manchester United have been linked before, while Arsenal and Manchester City have also been mentioned as clubs monitoring the situation. Barcelona have also been credited with interest, although finances could make that difficult.
