Man City join Arsenal in race for Julian Alvarez

28 August 2026 - 20:23

Manchester City are considering a reunion with Arsenal target Julian Alvarez before the transfer window closes next week.

  • Chelsea agree deal to sign Argentine star
  • Man City enter race to sign £80m Arsenal target

  • The Argentine is determined to leave the Madrid giants before the deadline, but the club have made it clear that they won't negotiate with Barcelona, who are his preferred destination.

A return to the Premier League seems the most probable outcome for the 26-year-old, and reports claim that Arsenal could face competition from the Cityzens for the World Cup winner.

Man City have just offloaded Savio and Omar Marmoush to Tottenham Hotspur and seem keen on signing Alvarez on a season-long loan, especially.

On the other hand, Arsenal prefer a permanent deal and are prepared to meet Atletico's £128m demands. They could also offer Viktor Gyokeres to lower the fee.

The Gunners could also guarantee Alvarez the number nine role, which won't happen at the Cityzens with Erling Haaland being an undisputed starter upfront.

Hence, Arsenal should be optimistic about landing him.
