Pompey needed to sell Mendes

16 August 2008 - 12:09

Harry Redknapp has revealed that Portsmouth needed to sell Pedro Mendes as they had to bring in some cash after a busy summer in the transfer market. Mendes joined Rangers this summer.

  • Chelsea to make approach for Morgan Rogers?
  • Chelsea star determined to join Barcelona?
  • Redknapp said: "I'm really sorry to lose Pedro.

"I love him as a fella and a player. He's a great pro and a great person.

"But I had to get some money in. They are the rules of the game. That's why he had to go. We would not be sitting here now if it wasn't for him. That's a fact.

"He kept us up that year when he scored that goal against Manchester City. No doubt about that. And he would have been in my team on Sunday."
