Scotland see off Iceland

10 September 2008 - 22:21

Kirk Broadfoot and James McFadden scored the all important goals as a ten man side battled to a spirited 2-1 victory over Iceland on Wednesday evening.

  • Man Utd without four players for Bournemouth clash
  • Liam Rosenior on Enzo Fernandez's Chelsea future
  • The Rangers fullback put the visitors ahead in the 18th minute, and Barry Robson added a second in the 59th.

Despite captain Stephen McManus being sent off and Eidur Gudjohnsen's converting the resulting penalty kick in 77th, Scotland earned its first victory in World Cup qualifying.

Broadfoot met Robson's corner at the near post to head in the opener and Stephen McManus cleared Hermann Hreidarsson's shot off the line. Robson reacted quickly to double the lead after James McFadden's penalty was saved by Kjartan Sturluson.

McManus was sent off after handling a cross at the back post.
