Sunderland are apparently ready to make January offers for Reading pair Stephen Hunt and Kevin Doyle. However, the Royals are ready to rebuff any approach for the duo.
Reading's director of football Nicky Hammond told the Reading Evening Post: "We are absolutely under no pressure to lose players in January. Financially we are in a good position where we don't have to sell.
"We very much want to keep the squad together now. We are aware of contract issues and if a club did meet a certain valuation on Stephen Hunt and he wanted to go we can't keep him.
"So we want to be in the best position we can be by that time. Then hopefully players will want to stay.
"Everyone has ambitions to play in the Premier League, but hopefully they will see they can do that with Reading. The better position we're in by January the more chance there is of that happening."
