Everton ease past Sheff Wed

Everton eased past Championship strugglers Sheff Wed tonight in the Carling Cup. The Everton side dominated the game and Sheff Wed were largely resigned to shots from distance.

  • James McFadden scored twice in the second half before Yakubu Aiyegbeni sealed victory for the visitors five minutes from time.



    McFadden opened the scoring in the 59th minute with the simplest of finishes before heading home his and Everton's second on 84 minutes.



    Yakubu added the third for David Moyes' men a minute later as he slotted past Wednesday goalkeeper Lee Grant.



    Sheff Wed: Grant, Gilbert, Hinds, Wood, Simek, Whelan, Jermaine Johnson (Burton 67), Small, Kavanagh (Lunt 80), Tudgay, Jeffers (Sodje 73).

    Subs Not Used: Burch, Bullen.



    Everton: Wessels, Hibbert (Neville 46), Lescott, Stubbs, Nuno Valente (Baines 64), Jagielka, Pienaar, Osman, Carsley, McFadden, Yakubu (Anichebe 86).

    Subs Not Used: Ruddy, Johnson.
