Petrov surprised Cahill still at Bolton

Bolton defender Gary Cahill should have left the club this summer; and according to midfielder Martin Petrov, Arsenal and Tottenham have missed out on the best defender in the Premier League.

Bolton had been in discussions for Gary Cahill's departure with both Tottenham and Arsenal; but team mate Martin Patrov was surprised that a deal failed to be completed before the end of the Premier League transfer window.

“For me, he is the best defender in the whole league,” said Martin Petrov. “He is strong, quick and can head the ball well.

“Am I surprised he is still at Bolton? That is not a question for me.

“For the team, it is very good that he stays. But if the club choose to sell, I think we must understand that he is a very good player, who wants to go forward in his career.”
