Paul Scholes comes out of retirement

Paul Scholes has come out of retirement to play for Manchester United until the end of the season. The United legend, 37, has surprised many and answered the call of Sir Alex Ferguson to play on until July.

Scholes has played over 676 times for United and has admitted that he missed football since retiring recently: "I've been pretty clear since I stopped playing that I miss it.

"I'm looking forward to playing my part in trying to bring more success to this great club.

"I'm delighted the manager feels I can still make a contribution to the team."

Sir Alex Ferguson had been pursuing Scholes for several weeks, and the former England midfielder agreed to answer the call yesterday.

United manager Ferguson said: "It's fantastic that Paul has made this decision. It's always sad to see great players end their careers, but especially so when they do it early."
