Jol leaves Tottenham

Jol leaves Tottenham

Martin Jol has finally left Tottenham Hotspur after months of speculation. The straw that broke the camel's back seemed to be tonights appalling result against Getafe in the UEFA Cup, which saw Spurs defeated 2-1 by Getafe. Tottenham have had a disastrous start to the season which sees them languishing in 18th in the Premiership. Jol has accepted the £4m compensation package offered by Tottenham.

Sevilla coach Juande Ramos has been persistently linked with the Tottenham job, and it seems that he will be the early front-runner to take the reigns at Spurs. Clive Allen, the reserve-team coach, is expected to take temporary charge until Ramos arrives, starting with the match against Blackburn at the weekend.

Ramos said that he will remain at the Spanish club until the end of his contract in the summer, but Tottenham have been pursuing him since. They are likely to have offered him considerably more than the £2 million a season that Jol has been earning.

Jol, who joined Spurs in 2004, is Tottenham Hotspur's most successful manager of recent years, finishing in 5th place in the past two Premiership seasons and reaching the UEFA Cup quarter final in 2006/07.
