Veteran midfielder Theo Janssen believes that the decision for a Chelsea move should be left to the discretion of Marco van Ginkel. He reckons that the 20-year-old should make a move if he feels he is ready for it.

Jose Mourinho has longed to capture van Ginkel’s summer signing and the reports linking the young star to Chelsea have been in the market for about a month a now. It is believed that Mourinho is in final stages of seizing the spectacular midfielder’s transfer but there has been no official confirmation.

Janssen told NUsport:

"I gave him a call and told him my opinion. I said he must follow his feelings,"

"If he thinks he's ready for the next step, then he must do it. I think he is ready for a next step but the step to Chelsea is very big.”

"Eventually I think he will reach that level. Only the question is if he will reach that level already, or if he needs some time to adapt. I think the last one."

Janssen also seems confident that Ginkel wouldn’t be loaned out at Chelsea, should he accept the offer from the Stamford Bridge. Personally, the 31-year-old believes that Ginkel should not miss out on such a golden chance.

"It's the plan that he'll join the Chelsea squad, learn a lot and play on a regular basis,"

"I told him that opportunities like this don't come that often and, if you get a chance like this, I think you must do it."
