Everton in ambitious bid for Keisuke Honda
Everton manager Roberto Martinez wants to sign Japan international midfielder Keisuke Honda from CSKA Moscow. The player's contract will expire with the Russian team on January 1st, 2014; but Everton are hopeful a deal can be agreed before that.
Everton want to sign Japan's most popular player before the beginning of the new season, but CSKA Moscow are believed to have demanded around 7 million Euros to let the player leave.
Even more importantly, Keisuke Honda has been pushing for a move to a club that is playing Champions League football, something that Everton cannot currently offer.
The Toffees have also been keeping an eye on Spartak Moscow's winger Aiden McGeady, but Honda is believed to be the new number 1 target for this summer's transfer spending.
Should Marouane Fellaini leave Everton it is understood that Martinez will look to replace the Belgian with Honda.
