Klose retires from international football

Germany striker Miroslav Klose announced his retirement from international football on Monday.

The 36-year-old played a crucial role in the Eagles’ World Cup victory in Brazil this year, after he became the highest goal scorer in the history of the tournament with 16 strikes, surpassing the previous best of 15 held by Brazilian legend Ronaldo.

The Polish-born player made his international debut in 2001, and has since then featured in four World Cups scoring in each of them and is the country’s all-time top scorer with 71 goals in 137 appearances.

The one-time German Player of the Year, started his professional career with Bundesliga club Kaiserslautern in 1998 before he moved to Werder Bremen in 2004 and then to Bayern Munich in 2007.

Klose then joined Serie A side Lazio in 2011 and has featured in 100 games for the Italian side, netting the ball on 40 occasions.

He is the second member of the victorious World Cup team to hang up his boots, after skipper Philipp Lahm called it quits last month.
