Sunderland make bid for Virgil van Dijk

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has tabled a bid for Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk. The highly rated centre back had been linked with a transfer to Man Utd.
According to reports, the Stadium of Light side have contacted the Glasgow side regarding van Dijk's availability. The centre back has enjoyed regular first team action at Celtic and is said to be only considering a move somewhere where he will be guaranteed regular playing time, thus a potential move to Manchester appears to be off. Sunderland will make the signing of the defender before the transfer window closes should personal terms be agreed.
