United win on penalties

Man Utd have won the seasons opener, the Community Shield. The score after 90 minutes was 1-1, with Florent Malouda scoring on his full debut cancelling out Ryan Giggs' early goal. However, as the game went to penalties, van der Sar was the hero saving three successive penalties.
The game wasn't the most entertaining much like last seasons FA Cup final, and Chelsea played without Shevchenko and Drogba up front. Giggs scored after a good build up from Ronaldo and Evra, but Malouda equalised just before half time.
Violent scenes interrupted the play as Wayne Rooney and Ben Haim profile" alt="Tal Ben Haim profile">Tal Ben Haim continued their ongoing feud; with both picking up bookings in the game.
As the game went into penalties, Pizarro, Lampard and Wright-Phillips all missed with saves from van der Sar. Utd scored through Ferdinand, Carrick and Rooney and United were the winners of the Community Shield for 2007/2008.
