Newcastle United keen on Ashley Cole?

Newcastle United are considering a surprise bid to sign former Chelsea defender Ashley Cole this summer.

The former England international made a move to the Serie A with Roma, following an eight-year association with Chelsea.

However, he struggled to settle in Italy as he made just 16 appearances in all competitions for the Capital outfit.

According to The Star, Magpies boss Steve McClaren is eager to offer the former Arsenal and Chelsea star with an escape route back to the Premier League during the upcoming transfer window.

Cole was capped 108 times by the England national side.
