Everton confirm Mason Holgate signing

Everton have completed the signing of Barnsley teenager Mason Holgate for an undisclosed fee.

The 18-year-old defender made his debut for the Tykes in December last year, and has since then notched 22 appearances in all competitions for the League One side.

Holgate has joined the Merseyside outfit on a five-year deal.

"With Mason, an opportunity came up and we didn't want to lose out. He is a young man with a very impressive future," manager Roberto Martinez told the club's official website.

"His development is going to be important and it will be interesting to see how quickly he can have an impact on the first-team. "

Everton visit Southampton in their next Premier League fixture on Saturday.
