Newcastle United sign Jonjo Shelvey

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Swansea City midfielder Jonjo Shelvey for a reported fee of £12m.

The England international had been tipped to leave the Swans during the transfer window with a number of Premier League sides vying for his services.

It is now confirmed that the former Liverpool man has passed a medical and agreed on a five-and-a-half-year contract with the Magpies.

"I'm so glad that it's finally done," he told the club's official website.

"I drove up through the night to be here so it's been a manic 24 hours, but it's all been worth it to come here and play for this great club."

Shelvey has earned six caps with his national side.
