Slimani close to Leicester deal

English champions Leicester City look set to activate the release clause of in-form Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani. The Algerian international has gone from strength-to-strength ever since his exploits in the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil.

Slimani has been in tip-top form for Sporting, who have given a good fight to Benfica for the Primeira Liga title this season.

Portuguese daily A Bola claims that the Foxes are ready to trigger the player's £23.6m escape clause amid interest from the likes of Everton and Stoke City.

Claudio Ranieri's side are expected to bring in several reinforcements over the summer as they seek to test themselves in next season's Champions League.

The 27-year-old has an amazing record at the international stage netting 23 goals in just 43 outings for Les Fennecs.
