Sweden's Euro elimination clears way for Ibrahimovic to Man Utd

Zlatan Ibrahimovic news

Can Ibrahimovic to Man Utd finally be confirmed?

Sweden were eliminated from the UEFA European Championship in France last night, with captain and all-time highest goal-scorer, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, officially retiring from international football.

Speculation over the legendary Swedish striker's future has been rife ever since he decided not to renew his contract with French champions Paris Saint Germain.

With said contract expiring this summer, Ibrahimovic is available on a free transfer and Manchester United are widely reported to have already sewn up a deal to take the former Ajax player to Old Trafford, where he will link up with new manager José Mourinho after the pair worked together at Inter Milan in the 2008-09 season.

It was believed that Ibrahimovic's official unveiling as a United player was delayed by his inability to complete a club medical while on international duty with Sweden at Euro 2016.

With Sweden now dumped out after finishing bottom of Group E, behind Italy, Belgium and the Republic of Ireland, the path is now clear for the formalities of Ibrahimovic's move to Old Trafford to be completed.

The 34-year-old veteran may be advancing in years, but he enjoyed the most productive campaign of his career last season for PSG, breaking the 50-goal barrier for the first time, and helping his side retain the Ligue 1 title.

Ibrahimovic is believed to have received offers from China, MLS and former club AC Milan, but prefers to reunite with Mourinho at United.
