The German midfielder would consider MLS move, but wants to stay at United for now

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is open to a move to New York to lay in Major League Soccer in the future, according to reports in Germany.

Schweinsteriger made his final appearance for the German national side last night in a friendly match against Finland, and speaking to the German media after the games, the former Bayern Munich player was asked about the possibility of playing in MLS in the future.

“New York is a great City but I have a contract with United until 2018.” Schweinsteiger said.

The 32-year-old has been informed that he is not part of José Mourinho’s plans at Old Trafford and has been made to train with the under-23 team of late.

But Schweinsteiger recently reiterated his desire to stay at Old Trafford in a statement released publically, in which he claimed that United will be his last club in Europe.

The 121 cap former Germany captain reportedly turned down an offer to sign for Sporting Clube de Portugal in the final days of the transfer window. The player’s refusal to move supposedly angered Mourinho, who was keen to offload Schweinsteiger to clear his hefty salary off the wage bill.

Schweinsteiger insists that he is happy to stay at United and will fight for his place in the team, although it seems highly unlikely at this stage that Mourinho will consider him for selection this season.
