Arsenal board to back Arsene Wenger?

Wenger could still be backed for next season

Arsenal are prepared to back Arsene Wenger with a fresh contract, provided he can change the club's style of play between now and the end of the season.

The French head coach has been under immense pressure to leave the club in the summer following a 10-2 aggregate thumping at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League, last 16.

Adding to this, their Premier League challenge looks all but over following the defeat to Liverpool last weekend, and they now find themselves fighting for a top-four position which guarantees a Champions League play-off spot at the least.

According to The Mirror, the hierarchy will keep their trust in the 67-year-old, only if he is to reinvent himself at the north London club.

The board feel Wenger is the right man to take the club forward, and he could be backed with a summer budget to build up a fresh squad capable of challenging for the long-awaited title.

Arsenal take on fifth-tier Lincoln City in the FA Cup quarter-final on Saturday evening, and a win is an absolute necessity if they are to lift some silverware this term.
