Mahrez hands in transfer request

Riyad Mahrez has informed Leicester City that he wants to leave the club

Riyad Mahrez was one of the stars of Leicester City's shock Premier League winning campaign last season. After shining for The Foxes, Mahrez was heavily linked with a move away from the club. Now, after a season where it was back to reality for Leicester, he has handed in a transfer request, as he tries to force a move away from the Midlands club.

The Algerian international, who was voted PFA Player of the Year in 2016, had a much quieter start to this season, as did the rest of the Leicester City squad. He was rejuvenated under the management of Craig Shakespeare however, finishing the campaign with ten goals and seven assists.

Releasing a statement following handing in the transfer request, Mahrez stated: "Out of the huge admiration and respect I hold for Leicester I wanted to be totally honest and transparent. I have informed the club that I feel now is the time for me to move on." The skilful winger went on to express the enjoyment that he has had with the club over the last four years but expressed that he is "fiercely ambitious" as he looks to take the next step in his career.

It is not yet known where Riyad Mahrez will be playing his football next season, but if he is able to find the form that he did throughout Leicester's League winning campaign, he would not look out of place in one of Europe's biggest teams.
