Manchester United are in pole position to secure a £35m deal for Sweden international and Benfica defender Victor Lindelof.

The Red Devils have been in constant discussions with Benfica since the start of 2017, and it appears that a £35m deal has been struck to bring the player to Old Trafford.

Lindelof inked a new long-term contract with Benfica which included a £52m release clause in March, but this has not diminished United's interest in the defender.

Speaking in Portugal, Mourinho refused to rule out a move for the highly-rated defender, thereby giving a hint that the move could be close to completion, he said, via The Mirror: "I will not say if I want him or not, I think it’s incorrect."

Lindelof, who recently won a domestic double with Benfica, is likely to provide versatility to the United squad owing to his ability to play at either centre-back or right-back.

The Swede was tipped to join the Mancunian giants during the winter transfer window, but Mourinho was unwilling to match Benfica's valuation with Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo emerging as the perfect central defensive partners.
