Afonso Alves for Boro

In light of Yakubu's potential move to Everton, Middlesbrough are lining up a swift move for Heerenveen's Brazilian international striker Afonso Alves.

Alves is expected to command a fee in the region of £10m, using the £12m they will receive from Everton for the Yakubu transfer. The Brazilian was part of the international side's victorious Copa America squad. Last season Alves scored 34 goals in 30 games in the Dutch league and finished as top scorer.

Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Werder Bremen have also expressed an interest in the striker.
