Former Chelsea midfielder linked with Premier League return
Former Chelsea and Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles could make a surprise return to the Premier League this season. The 34-year-old is on the search for a fresh club following his release from Fenerbahce in the summer.
Meireles spent time in the English top-flight with both Liverpool and Chelsea, but he is most fond for his spell with the latter, whom he helped to FA Cup and Champions League success in 2012.
According to The Sun, the Portugal international has emerged as a transfer target for both Swansea City and Watford whilst there is also Serie A interest from Cagliari.
Meireles has 73 caps to his name with the Portuguese national side, and a Premier League comeback may seem more appealing if he is to stand a chance of returning to the national setup.
The veteran has notched 39 goals in over 465 appearances in his professional career. He enjoyed his best spell with FC Porto, with whom he won four successive Premier Liga titles between 2005 and 2009.
