Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Fred Rodrigues from Shakhtar Donetsk. The 25-year-old is likely to pen a five-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.

In a statement released on the club's official website, United confirmed that the Brazil international will be making the switch from Ukraine with the remaining details to be revealed in due course.

"Manchester United is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Shakhtar Donetsk for the transfer of Frederico Rodrigues de Paula Santos. A further announcement will be made in due course," the statement read.

Fred has heavily been tipped to join the Mancunian giants over the past month and the midfielder dropped a big hint on his future last week after liking a post on his official Instagram account.

The former Internacional graduate has now become the club's first signing of the summer transfer window and the deal could be soon be followed with the imminent capture of Diogo Dalot from FC Porto.

The Portuguese teenager is likely to arrive at Old Trafford to complete the necessary formalities in the next 24 hours and the deal is expected to cost around £19m. United are said to have spent around £52m on Fred.
