Manchester United announce third summer signing

Grant joins Manchester United

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Lee Grant from Stoke City on a free transfer. The 35-year-old becomes the club's third recruit of the transfer window and he is expected to play as the third-choice shot-stopper behind David de Gea and Sergio Romero.

Earlier this week, Sky Sports confirmed United's interest in signing the veteran keeper and things have since moved quickly with the former Derby County ace penning a two-year contract with the club.

'Moving to Manchester United has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. This was an opportunity that I couldn’t let pass and I’m thrilled to become a part of such a historic club," he told the club's official website.

Grant may not expect to earn regular gametime during the course of the 2018/19 season but he could certainly feature in pre-season where United are likely to miss the services of De Gea.

De Gea has just entered into his vacation break after Spain's shocking exit at the round of 16 stage of the World Cup and he is likely to be out of action for at least three weeks.
