Johnstone secures Baggies switch

West Bromwich Albion have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Sam Johnstone from Manchester United for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the west Midlands outfit and he is expected to take over the number one role from former United graduate Ben Foster.

"I'm happy to be here. I've spoken to a lot of people about the club and heard nothing but good things," Johnstone told the Baggies' official website following his move.

Johnstone was initially expected to pursue a move to a Premier League side but the offer to play for the Baggies has been hard to refuse after he was offered a permanent switch.

During his seven seasons at Old Trafford, Johnstone failed to make a single appearance in the top-flight but hopefully, he can realise his Premier League dream with the Baggies in 12 months' time.

Johnstone's departure from Manchester United has coincided with the club signing Lee Grant on a free transfer from Stoke City. The 35-year-old is expected to act as their third-choice goalkeeper behind David de Gea and Sergio Romero next season.
