Mourinho hopeful of De Gea extension

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that talks are already underway with goalkeeper David de Gea regarding a new long-term deal.

The Spain international joined the Red Devils from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011 and he has since developed into one of the best shot-stoppers in the world.

In a report covered by The Sun, Mourinho confirmed that the club have begun negotiations with De Gea regarding an extension and hopefully, there would be good news in the near future.

"I don't belong in the process of discussing deals with the players and negotiations with agents. I just know that everything is in movement and hopefully sooner than later we'll have good news," he said.

De Gea presently has 11 months left on his existing contract with United but the club have the option of triggering an extension clause which would prolong his stay by a further year.

The Spaniard won his maiden Premier League Golden Boot last term after recording 18 clean sheets but he may have a tough task of replicating the feat this time around with United's defence looking more vulnerable.

In the three Premier League games this season, United have already conceded seven goals and this has resulted in a couple of defeats whilst denying De Gea a single shutout.
