Arsenal still interested in signing Argentine winger

Arsenal are still maintaining their interest in signing Cristian Pavon from Boca Juniors when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

The 22-year-old had been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates following the summer World Cup but a deal failed to materialise with the Gunners refusing to match Boca's valuation for the attacker.

However, according to TEAMtalk, Boca president Daniel Angelici is still open to parting ways with the forward with the Gunners now said to be prepared to match the £44m price tag.

Pavon did not make much of an impact for Argentina during the recent World Cup but his qualities have nevertheless impressed numerous sides including Barcelona where compatriot Lionel Messi is said to be his admirer.

Arsenal are currently seventh in the Premier League standings with nine points after the first five games of the season and they will shift their focus to the Europa League in midweek where they entertain Vorskla in the opener.
