Newcastle United step up interest in MLS star
Newcastle United have reportedly joined the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Miguel Almiron from Atlanta United this winter.
The Paraguay international has been in sublime form throughout the season and his tally of 13 goals and 13 assists has helped his side reach the MLS Cup conference finals where they are scheduled to face New York Red Bulls.
Amidst this, he has caught the attention of some of Europe's elite and Newcastle are reported to be among the admirers after his agent was spotted at St James' Park during the Magpies' 2-1 win over Bournemouth.
According to the Chronicle Live, the Tyneside outfit are yet to open talks with Almiron or Atlanta regarding the move but they have registered an interest through his agent and asked to be kept updated on his proceedings.
Magpies boss Rafael Benitez is likely to pursue at least one winger during the winter period and Almiron is said to fit the bill with his ability to play anywhere across the attack.
Almiron was previously valued at around £11m by The Sun before club president Darren Eales suggested that the player could cost up to thrice the amount.
