Liverpool set to compete with United for Fernandes

Liverpool are set to offer competition to Manchester United in the race to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes this summer.

The Portugal international, who contributed a stunning tally of 32 goals and 18 assists in the previous campaign, has been heavily touted to join the Red Devils in recent weeks.

However, according to Record, the Reds are said to have joined the pursuit of the 24-year-old and they are likely to hold discussions with agent Miguel Pinho, who is due to arrive in London next week.

Fernandes is capable of playing in multiple midfield positions and he has managed to step up his game in the past year which has earned him recognition with the national side.

His current deal at the Estadio Jose Alvalade expires during the summer of 2022 and this offers Sporting with the luxury to negotiate a significant price for their graduate.

Fernandes currently has an £86m release clause in his contract with the Lisbon giants, but the interested clubs have been touted to negotiate a lesser price for his services.
