United close to extending Rashford's contract

Manchester United are reportedly close to extending the contract of Marcus Rashford following an extended period of negotiations.

The England international is currently contracted to United until the summer of 2020 but the club have the option of extending his stay for another 12 months.

According to The Times, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have finally made the breakthrough in terms of a new long-term deal, which is expected to involve a significant payrise.

It has previously been claimed that the 21-year-old wants a staggering 400 percent increase on his current £75,000-a-week wages and it remains unclear whether United have bowed to the player's demands.

United have shown a keen emphasis on strengthening the British core at the club this summer and they have already landed the signature of Daniel James from Swansea City.

Newcastle United's Sean Longstaff has been another player tipped to head to Old Trafford but so far, the Red Devils have not made any official approach to sign the Magpies graduate.
