Chelsea reportedly have to make swift decision whether they are willing to sign Mateo Kovacic on a permanent basis from Real Madrid this summer.

The Croatian spent the previous campaign on loan with the west London side and the Blues now have the option to sign him on a permanent deal despite their year-long transfer ban.

According to AS, the Blues are permitted to secure the permanent signing of the 25-year-old midfielder, given he has already been registered in the club's ranks.

However, the west London giants need to make the decision in the next six days - considering the Croatian's temporary deal expires at the end of the ongoing month.

Los Blancos are said to want around £45m to sanction the deal, but the Blues are supposedly holding up on a possible agreement, given they are yet to recruit a new head coach.

Frank Lampard has been touted to take up the managerial post with the Blues but so far, the club have not found the breakthrough with Derby County over the compensation package.
