Wenger: "We want the CL"

Wenger:

Arsenal Manager has said that winning the champions league is what he and his club want now, describing his desire as an 'obsession'.

The Frenchman has energised the Arsenal team and led them to Premier league and FA Cup victories, but the European success is still a dream. He had gone very close to the European success in 2006, just 13 minutes away from it, before Barcelona thrashed his hopes.

“I've looked back at that Final. We had the chances to score the second goal to kill off Barcelona." said Wenger

“We were caught on the goal when they equalised and were a bit unlucky. But I feel this game was there to be taken if we had got a second goal. We had chances to do that. In a final it is like that. But you don’t stop a team who has the quality on a longer term." he added.

Wenger stated that the Club really wants it and it is the only thing that is missing from the Gunner's arsenal. "For me there is only one European trophy. The Champions League is the prestigious one. We have a good opportunity to come back in it now. We were in the Final in 2006 and we can come again."

He admitted that it is difficult to win and luck really makes a difference. He cited with the examples of great clubs like Real Madrid who had not gone past the last 16 in the past four years. "That tells you there is no guarantee. The competition is a cup competition at the top level."

The Frenchman has a good record against Liverpool at home and will be looking forward to secure a semi-final berth by winning tonight's match.
