Fernandes set for Man United move?

Sporting Lisbon president Frederico Varandas is reportedly expecting Bruno Fernandes to make the move to Manchester United before the end of the month.

The Portugal international has been fancied to join the Red Devils since the beginning of the year but so far, they have not been able to finalise the transfer fee with Sporting.

According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, Varandas still expects Fernandes to head to Old Trafford with the clubs only £5m apart in reaching a transfer agreement for the 25-year-old playmaker.

United have been reluctant to pay more than £45m as the initial fee for Fernandes but Sporting are anticipating a fresh approach of £50m plus add-ons before the transfer deadline on Thursday.

Aside from Fernandes, United are also said to be eyeing a striker to compensate for the injury to Marcus Rashford. They are keen on a short-term option for the season rather than a permanent purchase.

Manchester United are scheduled to face Manchester City in the second leg of the League Cup semi-final on Wednesday. They are trailing the Cityzens with a 3-1 scoreline after the first leg.
