Willian tipped to sign for Arsenal

Guardian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Willian could be heading to Arsenal on a free transfer when his contract with Chelsea expires.

The Brazilian has been a consistent performer for the Blues over the past seven years where he has registered 63 goals and 62 assists from 339 appearances.

His current deal expires at the end of their Champions League campaign next month and so far, the club have yet to negotiate a suitable extension.

While Willian wants a three-year contract renewal, the board have clearly mentioned that they won't offer him more than two years in a fresh deal.

Hence, he appears on the move and Romano claims that he is expected to join the Gunners following the expiry of his Blues contract.

Willian was close to agreeing personal terms on a £250,000-a-week deal with the Gunners before the coronavirus outbreak.

The club are unlikely to offer similar wages after the financial impact of the pandemic and it remains to be seen whether he will accept the proposal.
