Xabi Alonso drops fresh update on Emiliano Martinez

Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso has provided a fresh update on goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez ahead of tomorrow's Premier League clash against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have been in a poor run over the last few games. They suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League before being eliminated by Liverpool in the Carabao Cup fourth round.

Martinez was absent for both matches due to a fracture on his face, but he could be in contention to face the Red Devils in tomorrow's encounter.

Speaking in today's press conference, Alonso revealed that Martinez could make his return against United, but he would require a mask.

He said: "In case he's ready to play, he will probably need a face mask."

Chelsea were beaten in both league meetings against United last season and could face a similar stern challenge despite the Red Devils' woes.

Michael Carrick's side are winless in the last eight matches in all competitions and there will be a strong reaction at the Bridge.
