Manchester United want £20m for central defender
Manchester United are reluctant to sanction the sale of Chris Smalling this summer unless a club meets their £20m valuation.
The centre-back spent the recent campaign on loan with AS Roma where he impressed in his 37 appearances across all competitions.
The Giallorossi are eager to sign him on a long-term basis, but so far, they have failed to reach an agreement with the Red Devils.
Paulo Fonseca's side are willing to pay around £15m for Smalling, but United are adamant that they won't sell him for anything less than £20m.
The Giallorossi are not in a position to meet the figure after missing out on Champions League football and they are likely to continue negotiations.
Smalling is prepared to take a pay-cut in order to rejoin the Giallorossi on a permanent basis and it remains to be seen whether a deal materialises.
Inter Milan and Juventus have also been credited with an interest in the former Fulham man, who has turned out 323 times for the Red Devils.
